New Media Policies

New Media is a department of Universidad Francisco Marroquín (UFM), Guatemala.

Access to New Media resources

Access to the staff, equipment and resources of the New Media laboratories is a privilege that all students, professors and employees of UFM have. Foreign individuals to UFM can also have access to New Media, if it is with purposes consistent with the mission of the department.

Web servers and streaming: here we will place contents (text, photos, videos, audios, etc.) produced by New Media UFM, and we will only place other contents if:

  • The contents was produced by students of UFM during a class
  • The contents is a professor production and is related to one of the classes given at UFM
  • The contents were produced by a student, professor or employee of UFM, and are on a topic related with the UFM mission.
  • The contents is a production of another institution or individual, foreign to UFM and is on related topics to the mission of UFM
  • The contents is a production of another institution or individual to whom we are providing conversion services, and at the request of that client we are publishing for a limited period of time, with restrained access, for demonstration purposes only.

In all the above cases, we must have the authorization of the author (in writing or via email) for the conversion and placing of the contents in our server, and the recommendation of a professor or administrator of the UFM for its placement.

Our user´s privacy

New Media is in charge of the website www.newmedia.ufm.edu New Media respects the privacy of all of our website visitors. We appreciate, that by sharing their personal information, our users show their trust in us. This information can be three types:

1. Personal information (name, address, telephone, etc.) voluntarily given by the user when registering in our elective courses, academic courses, when buying our products or services, or when requesting additional information on any of the contents in our website.

2. Personal or public information that a user places in our public areas of discussion o forums of a course. Any information of this kind that has been voluntarily posted in a public area, can be seen, recollected, used or distributed by others with out New Media being able to, by no means, prevent it.

3. Information on the user’s connection: depending on the page or service that is being used, we are able to obtain information on the type of browser being used, their operating system and domain from which our webpage was access.

We use this information for the following:

  • To complete your orders, and to complete and process your payments;
  • To respond to your enquiries and get in touch with you;
  • To provide technical support during the courses that you receive with or through us;
  • To understand better your requirements and improve our products and services;
  • To send you notices on products and services of New Media that may interest you
Third parties: The gathered information will not be given to third parties unless we have the requirement and/ or the explicit authorization of the user. In the event that New Media should no longer exist, the gathered information shall correspond to the UFM administration and it will follow the policies of this institution.

Underage users: We do not have the intention to gather information on an underage user that visits us. In order to register in our elective courses or promotions, we ask the underage minor to do it with authorization of his parents.

Security: Only direct employees of New Media have access to the saved described information in our systems. If you do not wish for us to storage your information, please contact us.

Cookies: When accessing our website, automatically you will receive a cookie, meaning a small archive that contains information. If your browser is programmed not to accept cookies, you will not have any problems entering our site. However, you need to have this option habilitated in order to enter and navigate through the sites of elective and academic courses.

Permits

All projects done by New Media must take in consideration the intellectual property right of the participants, therefore:

  • Before recording a presentation of any kind, we ask for signed authorization by each participant who is recorded, including the materials that are presented in the final distributing edition of the final product for educational use
  • We never use any material (image, audio, video, text, ect.) without the written or via email consent of its author. In regard to material distributed through the internet we shall follow the posted guidelines by the authors, and/ or we will do our best to contact them and insure their consent
  • We do not convert commercial material such as DVDs, home videos or other protected materials, unless they are very short segments with the motive of making a narration or for its presentation in a presential class in the UFM campus
