Dr. James D. Gwartney, Director of the Stavros Center for the Advancement of Free Enterprise and Economic Education at Florida State University, speaks about his participation and experiences in the Economic Freedom of the World project, which is a measurement of the consistency of countries, institutions and policies with the ideal of market economy.  Dr. Gwartney emphasizes the important contribution that free trade, entrepreneurship and capital formation has in economic freedom and the necessity to live in a free system for the development and economic growth of a country.

Dr. James D. Gwartney

James D. Gwartney is Professor of Economics and Director of the Stavros Center for the Advancement of Free Enterprise and Economic Education at Florida State University. Former Chief Economist of the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress, he has co authored books and publications regarding economic freedom, as Economics: Private and Public Choice, Economic Freedom of the World and What Everyone Should Know About Economics and Prosperity. Professor Gwartney obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Washington and holds an Honorary Doctorate from Universidad Francisco Marroquín. He is also a member of the Mont Pelerin Society. His writings have appeared in various academic journals, as American Economic Review, Cato Journal and European Journal of Political Economy.
