About this video

Mary Anastasia O'Grady shares her perspectives on the current economic and political situation in Latin America. She discusses the division among the countries in the region in terms of their political and economic postures; explaining that while some appear to be moving backwards, others that have experimented with more trade openness are holding on to their gains despite the current recession. O'Grady also comments on recent US immigration policy and other factors she feels may be more significant in defining its relations with Latin America.

Mary Anastasia
Mary Anastasia O'Grady is a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board and editor of the “Americas,” a weekly column that deals with politics, economics, and business in Latin America and Canada. Previously, she was an options strategist at Advest, Inc., Thomson McKinnon Securities, and Merrill Lynch. In 1997, she received the Daily Gleaner Award from the Inter American Press Association and in 2005 she won the Bastiat Prize for journalism from the International Policy Network. O’Grady holds a BA in english from Assumption College and a MBA in financial management from Pace University.
