Why Evolution is True

The theory of evolution, one of the wonders that science has uncovered about the universe, has sparked the imagination of scientists and laymen since Darwin proposed it more than 200 years ago.

Few subjects in science have aroused more fascination and controversy than the powerful idea of evolution.

In this presentation based on his book Why Evolution is True, Jerry Coyne discusses evolutionary theory in detail and presents a clear summary of the facts supporting Darwinian evolution.

Coyne eloquently talks about what is evolution, evolutionary predictions and retrodictions, the fossil record, vestigial and atavistic features, developmental oddities, biogeography, and much more. Coyne shows that the evidence for evolution is vast and comes from a number of fields of science including genetics, anatomy, and molecular biology to paleontology and geology. Coyne does a very good job of presenting a concise and understandable overview of the theory of evolution.

Why Evolution is True: Interview with Jerry Coyne

In this video, Jerry Coyne explains that the enormous amount of evidence that exists clearly indicates the theory is correct. The most common opposition generally takes the form of skepticism and denial. According to Coyne, people either don't want to believe it or they have strong religious feelings against it. Finally, he discusses the importance human rationality and how in many ways human behavior is similar to that of animals.(...)Watch Video

Celebrating Darwin Aloud by Bobbi Low
A Worldwide Celebration of Charles Darwin's 200th birthday

Organized by the Center for Inquiry (CFI), people from all over the world are being videotaped reading excerpts from On the Origin of Species near famous landmarks in their countries.

Bobbi S. Low, PhD, is a professor at the School of Natural Resources and Environment (SNRE) and a research affiliate of the Population Studies Center (PSC) at the University of Michigan. She is the author of Why Sex Matters: A Darwinian Look at Human Behavior.

During her visit to Universidad Francisco Marroquín, Dr. Low read a passage from Charles Darwin's classic book as part of the Darwin Aloud celebration: "There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved."
